The Braemar Highland Games Centre explores a living tradition, the Highland games, focusing on the world-famous Braemar Gathering and its long-standing royal connections. Housed in The Duke of Rothesay Highland Games Pavilion, it was unveiled by HM The Queen in September 2018 and opens to the public 15th March 2019. The building is named in honour of HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, a keen supporter of the project through his charity, The Prince's Foundation. The Pavilion's exhibition will tell the story of Highland games and gatherings throughout the ages, celebrating the deep-rooted cultural and sporting traditions of Scotland. The unique story of the Braemar Gathering and the organisation behind it, the Braemar Royal Highland Society, founded in 1815, will be told through objects, documents and costumes. Discover how the Gathering's continuing link with the Royal Family began with Queen Victoria, learn about Highland games activities such as piping, dancing and heavy events, and see original Highlander uniforms, complete with kilts! The Pavilion cafe, tastefully furnished with the Duke of Rothesay tartan, is a comfortable place for a morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. From local hams, breads and cheeses to beautiful smoked salmon from the North East coast, the menu will celebrate the best that Scotland, and in particular Aberdeenshire, has to offer. Finish off your visit by picking up a souvenir of your day from our shop, or even by buying tickets to the next Braemar Gathering! The Pavilion and the Arena are available also for weddings, private and corporate events and can be hired for exclusive use. Chloe's Kitchen Creations - Licensed cafe at the Pavilion - open 7 days a week, 10am-4pm for tea, coffee, cake & light lunches.

Come and choose from a huge selection of ceramic shapes and paint however you fancy. We have over 50 colours to choose from and YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ARTISTIC - it's amazing what you can create with a sponge and our writer bottles! Don't think it's just for children either - many adults find it a highly therapeutic way to forget about your daily worries and stress. We will then glaze and fire them for you, achieving an extremely professional result. If you are at the end of your holiday, or just looking for a present, we also have a selection of take-away kits available from just £10. Please allow yourself plenty of time to paint – you need three layers to build up an opaque colour. Therefore, as a guideline; for under 4s allow approximately an hour, for 4-8 year old’s - an hour and a half, allow 2 hours for 8-11 year olds and 12 years and older can spend 3 or 4 hours or even a whole day (on quiet days only!) painting a masterpiece, especially if you are a perfectionist! For those who have visited before, please note we are not currently in Aviemore but you can find us half way down Grantown on Spey High Street.

Neighbouring Balmoral Castle, Royal Lochnagar is the perfect place to discover how Scotch Whisky is made. Watch as our team of operators tend to our traditional mashtun, gleaming copper stills and fill casks at our traditional distillery, which retains much of its original charm. The tour ends with a dram of the award-winning Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old Single Highland Malt. Royal Lochnagar Distillery one of the jewels in the Royal Deeside crown is situated beside her Majesty the Queen’s Scottish Home, Balmoral Castle, in Crathie, half way between the villages of Ballater and Braemar, which is home to the world famous Highland Gathering and Games. The distillery takes its name from the mountain, Lochnagar, which is a Munro, a mountain over 3000ft high. The Royal name was bestowed upon the distillery following a visit by Queen Victoria on the 12th September 1848. At the end of this, the first ever distillery tour, Queen Victoria enjoyed a dram of mature Lochnagar highland single malt scotch whisky.
