A HUT HOSTEL offering groups between of up to eight guests a tranquil homestead in the fringes of Abernethy Forest - the sort of place you thought didn't exist any more.
We are a fresh, colourful, snug, mountain hut hostel for up to 8 people tucked away on the fringes of the forest. We offer guests private use with additional beds being available to our maximum of eight. All details of pricing and availability may be found on our website. Semi open-plan, a bright spacious sleeping galley with 1 double and 2 single beds. Downstairs there are 2 sets of cabin bunks adjacent to a pristine shower room. All is warmed by a Norwegian wood-burning stove including the snug all-in-one kitchen/living area with blue tooth radio, wi-fi and books. Outside the door a sheltered covered garden - sitooterie - with large outdoor table, open fireplace cum BBQ and basket chairs provide space for relaxing evenings around the log fire. You are invited to cut logs from the stack provided for this fire and are especially appreciated if you leave a good pile for those coming after you.

Through the gate to a one-hundred acre grazing moor looking to the Cairngorm range, a gentle footpath takes you through juniper, pine, silver birch and rowan leading to spectacular views from Bynack Mor westwards to the Monadliath Mountains. And there are ample woodland cycle trails and swift routes into the high and lonely places, forest walks and slower routes, food for the soul.
Visitors to the Cairngorms have been coming to us here for over thirty years, to the hostel and four lightweight tent camping ground for fourteen years and, more recently, to three eco-huts, just for couples,
Follow road signs to Nethy Bridge and find the Nethy Bridge Hotel in the centre of the village near the river. There is a sign in the pub garden there directing you just one mile to the hostel. Cross one road at 'Causar crossroads' (our nearest bus stop) and look for our Lazy Duck sign on the roadside as you exit the village.

With just 8 beds The Lazy Duck is one of the smallest independent hostels in Europe. It is is fresh, colourful, snug and a regular haunt of return visitors, families and small groups. You will be met and well looked after by our great Team led by Paula.

Sheltered covered garden with basket chair seating and dining table, BBQ/wood fire, 2 person sauna, safe, dry storage for bikes, skis and outdoor gear. Free range eggs when available. Oh! and L. Our 'Woodman's Hut', a romantic stand alone retreat for two, with box bed, star gazer and south facing verandah looks straight to Cairngorm and Bynack across a neighbouring 100 acre moor.
Similarly The Duck's Nest by the waterfowl pond and the Lambing Bothy complete with lambs, might be worth a look.
Separately available, May to October, is a 4 pitch lightweight camping ground for 2-3 person tents only with campers' shelter, hot and cold water, flush loo, chimenea fire and enviable bush shower all provided.
