A moving and inspiring exhibition about life during the first world war.
Strathspey and the Great War
Grantown Museum: May - October 2018
2018 marks the Centenary of the end of the First World War, a landmark anniversary for Britain and the world. Strathspey and The Great War explores the role and impact of the conflict on the lives and families of the local community through the fascinating reportage of the local newspaper, The Strathy.
With so many loved ones far away, news was incredibly important to people at home. Newspapers became a lifeline, reporting what was happening politically, informing families of losses and publishing extracts of letters from the front. From the intriguing story of the mossgathers, to reports home from the Front, The Strathy was not only a reporter but an instigator, interrogator, encourager, an opinion giver and agent provocateur.
The exhibition runs from May 19th to 30th September 30th 2018 at Grantown Museum.
