The valley of the River Dee is known as Royal Deeside for its connections with Queen Victoria and her descendants. The Royal Residence of Balmoral Castle sits in the heart of the valley and is still a favoured home to Her Majesty the Queen. Dee Valley, which sits partly within the Cairngorm mountains, with the River Dee running through its centre offers walkers a variety of hill walking opportunities, from the majestic mountains of the Cairngorms, which includes The Queen’s jewel Lochnagar. From Monday 9th July 2015, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Balmoral Estate from the open top bus which connects Braemar, The Royal Lochnagar Distillery, Ballater and the Linn O'Dee.
